It’s also important to think of the dietary restriction you may have placed on certain foods as choices and not orders. So try saying don't instead of can't when you’re offered a sweet treat you’re not supposed to eat! When you say you don’t eat something, it means you’ve taken responsibility and chosen this restriction, whereas when you say you can’t eat something, it sounds like the restriction was mandated to you by some outside party that you’re likely to eventually come to look at with resistance.
