The heart is comprised of two atria and two ventricles. The contraction of the heart muscles is what makes a heartbeat, and it is responsible for pumping blood in the body. Usually, the upper and lower chambers of the heart contract and relax in a steady and predictable rhythm. However, some individuals may experience a heartbeat that arrives too early. This condition is known as bigeminy. If the premature contractions originate from the lower chambers they are known as premature ventricular contractions, and premature atrial contractions if they emerge from the upper chambers.
